One of my first paintings is the colorful piece I am holding—one of the early places where my imagination found its way onto canvas.
Meet Tammy
Where my creativity began.
I was raised on a farm in eastern Colorado by my great-grandparents, surrounded by animals, wide-open spaces, and plenty of room for my imagination to run wild. My animals were my companions, my imaginary friends were always nearby, and creativity became a natural part of the way I experienced the world.
I was given the freedom to make bold choices from the beginning. I picked out the most colorful carpet I could find and happily lived with pink and turquoise walls. And if you had seen me back then, I was probably wearing bell-bottoms and a black suede jacket with a big butterfly across the back. Color, individuality, and a little bit of attitude were already part of who I was.
I did not wander far from those roots. Today, I live in Kansas, only about 35 miles from the farm where I grew up. The freedom, imagination, animals, and colors of my childhood are still with me—and they continue to find their way into every woman I paint.
